The National School and Workshop on Silicon Spin Qubits was successfully concluded in Thiruvananthapuram, bringing together 25 participants from India’s leading research institutes working in the area of silicon spin qubits and quantum information processing. Co-sponsored by FQCI under the National Quantum Mission (NQM), the workshop provided a platform for researchers to exchange knowledge, review ongoing progress, and discuss the future directions and challenges of silicon-based spin quantum computing in India.
The workshop featured expert lectures and technical discussions on emerging developments in semiconductor-based quantum computing, particularly exchange-only spin qubits and their implications for device design, fabrication, and measurement. Participating laboratories presented progress across Si/SiGe, FDSOI, and Cryo-CMOS technology tracks, with discussions focusing on key technical challenges, potential solutions, and alignment with the milestones of the NQM project.
The workshop also facilitated the formation of collaborative sub-groups to leverage complementary expertise, infrastructure, and resources across participating laboratories. These collaborations will contribute to advancing research towards the development of quantum information processors using electron spins in silicon, supporting India’s broader quantum computing ambitions under the National Quantum Mission.
